Went to Kuching to do community service.. So my team went up to check the location, living quarters and so on before we brought a group of students up there. The library to be refurnished was so dilapidated, but it was really cool because half of the house was on a rock and it was built 70 yrs ago.

So the students did some fundraising and the money was sent to the school headmaster for buying the materials like paint, linoleum, fans cupboards and so on. Upon reaching however, we were met with obstacle upon obstacle. Our lodging at the village was not settled because the villagers had wanted us to separate the boys from the girls and the 2 places were very far from each other. Then we realised that the headmaster and the Rotarian liasing with us had cheated us of our money..the supplies they bought were inferior and not even enough for us to do much work.
Fortunately we met Henry, who kindly put us up for free and fought with us all through, as well as Katherine and Collin (Henry's friends, whose support helped get us through). Tough way to learn from our mistake of trusting the Headmaster and the Rotarian though!

Kuching city is beautiful, the waterfront has lots of really good food, i love their ramly burger and teh tarik (milk tea). Its a quiet city and the local handicraft is worth buying.
By the way Henry (the caucasian guy) runs Caliburn camp, for scouts and operates a camp site, worth going to because it has all basic amenties and facilities including a big kitchen.
Village Kuop is quite quaint, but there underlies many social problems like gangs and glue sniffing, which have caused many babies to be deformed.. And St James school is just falling apart.. its quite dangerous for the children becasue the second floor is only accessible via one staircase which is very steep and narrow....Wish there could be a way to help them out..Any ideas?
