Second part of my trip to Ireland was on Galway and around it. I walked through its narrows and beautiful street, visited the cathedral, the university, St Nicholas Church and i spent a very good evening on The King´s Head pub. Around Galway there´s many places to visit. The three more important are, The Aran Island, Kylemore Abbey on Connemara and The Cliffs of Moher and Burren.
Galway City is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe and, with a population of approx. 65,000, it has become the third city in the Republic of Ireland after Dublin and Cork. It began as a small fishing village centred around the estuary of the River Corrib, a river traditionally called Abhainn na Gaillimhe (The Galway River) after Galvia, a mythological princess said to have drowned in its waters. |

psytek Thu Aug 28, 2008 12:09 UTC how to get there with the bus? | Hopkid Thu Mar 22, 2007 00:31 UTC Nice tips on Galway, Lina. I haven't made a page for my Ireland trip yet because I need to scan my photos. It was before I had a digital camera! | VeronicaG Fri Mar 16, 2007 21:36 UTC Galway offers some nice sights--to think Columbus worshipped in St. Nicholas church is truly amazing. Dunguaire Castle would definitely be on my list of "must sees"for its history and its location overlooking Galway Bay...regards from Texas! | 36waterfalls Tue Jan 23, 2007 08:33 UTC Very good tips Lina, I enjoyed this tour. Thanks for sharing! |
