If you're visiting anywhere in the South East United States, don't miss a chance to spend a few days in the Savannah area. There is an amazing amount of Colonial and pre Cvil War atmosphere, lots of culinary options, a vibrant college scene, and the Atlantic Ocean is less than 30 minutes away by car! The Historical area is unique. There are 24 squares, each with its own individual style of fountain, statues, etc. They were designed with the defense of the city in mind. Standing in one square you can see the next square in each of the cardinal directions, 3 or 4 blocks down.
I'd recommend taking a 90 minute trolley tour around town offered by several companies, to get the feel of the place and a general orientation of where you'd like to go back and see in depth. |
