Work on this church was begun in 1290, completed in 1400 and has Gothic design features.
Address: Piazza Sant'Anastasia
Built in the late 1300's. It was blown up by the Germans in WW II. The river was carefully dredged to recover as much of the original masonry and the bridge was painstakingly restored.
Directions: The bridge crosses the Adige River between Castelvecchio and Piazza Arsenale
Started in 1172 and completed in 1463, this is the tallest of Verona's towers, measuring 275 ft (84 meters). Although there are 238 steps to the top, there is an elevator (lift) that takes you about 2/3 of the way up. Views from the top are breathtaking. The tower is right next to the Palazzo della Ragione, or Law Court, built in the 15th century and has an impressive exterior stairway.
Address: Piazza dei Signori
Since the story is fictional the house must be also, but, like they say, it's the thought that counts. It is, however, a very old house (13th century). The house's most photographed attraction is the balcony and visitors rub the right breast of Juliet's statue for luck.
Address: Via Cappello, 27
Directions: Just East of Piazza Erbe
At the center of the plaza you see a statue of Dante Alighieri, who helped define "Italian", based on the regional dialect of Tuscany, with some elements of Latin and of the other regional dialects, and is known for his "Divine Comedy". After being exiled from Florence he was the guest of the Scala family in Verona.
In front of the statue is the Palazzo del Capitano, once home to Verona's military commanders. There is an interesting archway with columns made to look like cannons.
Behind Dante is the Renaissance facade of the Loggia del Consiglio.
Address: Piazza dei Signori
Directions: One block North of Piazza Erbe
This square has hosted a marketplace for more than 2,000 years! It is named after the city's old herb market. Even now you can buy many kinds of produce as well as the regions breads, wines, etc. It is also a good place to browse for souvenirs, some of which are handmade locally.
Address: Piazza Erbe
Directions: At the intersection of Via Pellicciai and Via Cappello
A well preserved castle from the mid 14th century is also a comprehensive museum of paintings, metalwork, weapons and armor, all from the surrounding area and going back as far as Roman times.
Address: Corso Castelvecchio
Directions: Western edge of the Old City on the Adige River.
