One of the greatest things to me about visiting Lijiang was seeing the hundreds of Chinese tourists enjoying the beauty of their own country. Lijiang's old city has been remodeled and restored, and is a marvelous place to visit.
Ancient music, played on ancient instruments, by very old musicians is one of the entertainments in Lijiang. The conductor was once a political prisoner in China, and is now known world wide. A short biography appears in "Lonely Planet."
The oldest musician in the group is in his 90s. Most of those playing instrumetns were at least 70, although the vocalists were younger.
Shopping is one of the favorite activities of ourists in Lijiang. Pasmina scarves are one of the best buys. Usually made of 65% pashmina and 35% silk, the shawls are available in all colors.
- Pros:Lots of interesting things to do.
- Cons:Somewhat pricey.
- In a nutshell:Well worth the two days I spent there.

Eh, aren't you in the wrong province? This Lijiang that you visited is the one in Yunnan province (Sheng), but you're posting under a Lijiang in Hunan province (Sheng).
