Concentration Camp | The front gates to Dachau Concentration Camp |
Dachau, Germany, its pretty city on the out skirts of Munich, but it also has a dark side to it and unless you skipped history class from 5th grad to 11th grade, then Dachau should ring in your head as place where Hitler had his Nazis murder Jews during World War 2. You go through school your whole child hood, all they ever talk about in history class is the concentration camps, I remember when i was 15 thinking these pictures arent enough I want to go there some day. The Dachau Concentration Camp, was the first large-scale concentration camp in Germany, the Nazis built it in 1933. In total, over 200,000 prisoners from more than 30 countries were housed in Dachau. Beginning in 1941, Dachau was also used for extermination purposes. Camp records list 30,000 persons killed in the camp, with thousands more who died due to the conditions in the camp. The camp was freed by the 45th Infantry Division of the U.S. Seventh Army on April 29, 1945. These forces were led by Lieutenant Colonel Felix S. Sparks. Dachau was used for many years thereafter as a residence for refugees. |
