CHRISTMAS this year promises to be bigger, better and much brighter, with the Singapore Tourism Board's "Christmas in the Tropics" promising many firsts.

The Orchard Road light-up, with the theme of "Magical Christmas
Garden", will be extended to Marina Bay.

Singaporeans and visitors can also skate on ice on a specially-erected 2,000 sq ft rink behind Orchard MRT station. There will also be a 100-ft Christmas tree - the tallest ever staged in Singapore.

And when the streets light up on Nov 13, international acts featuring
contortionists, comedians and jugglers will take to the streets in the
Singapore Buskers Festival. A street parade down Orchard Road will be held on Dec 18.

This will also be the first Christmas that the STB is working with Visa
International, the official card and sponsor of the festive activities,
to give away over $300,000 worth of prizes to visitors when they shop in Singapore.
