Singapore - A City Like No Other

Orchard Road
What makes a place unique, that gives it its distinct identity?
Its people.
Its landscape.
Its place in the world.
Its passage through time.

From its beginning as a humble trading post to the bustling metropolis it is today, Singapore has always been different. A bridge between the East and the West for centuries, Singapore is today a vibrant melting pot of ideas, cultures and peoples. Local in its perspective but global in its outlook, Singapore is a city that has evolved uniquely, where age-old traditions and cutting-edge innovations are celebrated, a place brimming with unbridled energy and bursting with exciting events.

Singapore - truly a city like no other. With its friendly and welcoming people, state-of-the-art infrastructure and something new happening every day, Singapore is so easy to appreciate. Come and discover countless unique experiences, and take away memories that are uniquely Singapore!
The Singapore River

Just a Few Examples to Mention

It's tough to find one word to describe Singapore. It's been called a food paradise, one of the best business cities in the world, a cultural melting pot, a city of contrasts, among others.

What is Singapore truly? You'll have to decided for yourself.

Whether it's a vibrant urban buzz that you are looking for or something more rustic and rural, Singapore has much to offer.

Best part is, you can visit Singapore at all times of the year as its tropical climate means sunshine all year round.

Travelling around the island is easy as there are plenty of taxis, buses and the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) to choose from. English - or better Singlish - is widely spoken so it's easy to find your way around. You can also explore the island on more traditional modes of transport such as the trishaw or a bumboat. Or sign up for the Singapore DUCKtours which will take you on a heritage tour on land and water onboard an amphibious craft.

Spend a relaxing day away from the city and immerse yourself in the local lifestyle. It's easy to get there. Simply take the MRT to the suburbs like Toa Payoh, Holland Village and Tampines. Browse through "mom&pop" shops or the more modern shopping malls. Catch a movie at the cineplex. And don't forget to have a cup of local tea or coffee at the kopitiam or coffee shop.

You'll be astounded by the number od activities that can be packed into this pulsating island, day and night. You may have heard of how one friend had enjoyed breakfast with some animals at the Zoo, how another had danced into the wee hours of the morning at one of the island's many trendy nightspots. But did you know that you can also get up close and personal with animals in the night, swim with pink dolphins, pamper yourself in an outdoor spa and even consult a geomancer for better luck and prosperity? Yes, Singapore is more exciting than ever! And with more attractions being added every year, maybe by your next visit, you may have to rediscover Singapore. That's Singapore!

Gourmet Paradise

Don't be surprised if a SIngaporean asks you "Have you eaten yet?". It's a common greeting here because Singaporeans make no bones about their love for food, especially when there's constant temptation offered by a wide variety of food!

And foodies everywhere will attest to this: Singapore is truly a food paradise! We even celebrate our culinary variety during the annual Singapore Food Festival (in July) and World Gourmet Summit (in April).

Speaking of food, SIngapore is without doubt a gourmet paradise. While you're there, you must sample the different cuisines available. One thing you musn't miss in Singapore's local fare, especially the famed chilli crab and Hainanese chicken rice, char kway teow (flat rice noodles fried with black soya sauce) and nasi padang (rice with various Malay dishes). Explore the local food centres, which are very popular with the typical Singaporean. Good food can be had at very reasonable prices. Of course, if you want to know where the best food is, simply follow your nose and don't forget to spot the long queue in front of the food stall - locals do not mind waiting for good food!

From fancy air-conditioned restaurants to the local food centre, from French cuisine to local Peranakan (or Straits Chinese) dishes or even Mongolian food - the flavours are so different that you'd be missing out if you don't venture beyond the food you're used to.
