"Manzanillo - Airport to Sierra Maestra Mts" Manzanillo by TOFFY

Manzanillo Travel Guide: 4 reviews and 6 photos

Manzanillo is the local ariport for packages deals to favourite resorts of the Canadians - The Farillon, and its smaller sister hotel, Marea Del Portillo, both of which are very pleasant, low key, resorts.(Not flashy 5 star spots) These hotels are located on the south shore, which offers better weather than the north shore and the local scenery is still in its natural state.
The south shore is lined by an awsome road which will take you east, parallel to the Sierra Meastra Mountains, all the way to Santiago .

The town of Manzanillo, founded in 1784, is centered around its fishing industry, and a port for exporting sugar. A lot of Cuban history is also centered here, being a smuggling port and then a centre of rebellion during the wars of independance. It is the home of the first communist group, and later the site of revolutionary activities organized by Cuban heroine, Celia Sanchez. Look for the main square, Parque Cepedes, and watch for the Moorish-style architecture and the beautiful gazebo in the centre. This town also has place in the history of music as the town that imported and built street organs.

Geographically, Manzanillo sits between the mountains and the sea, and makes a great stop if heading to Caba Cruz in the south, Bayamo to the east, or Santo Domingo in the mountains. It is also the airport used for those adventurers who plan to hike Cuba's highest mountain, Pico Torquino, home of the revolutionary headquarters. (see my Off-the-Beaten-Track pages.

Wonderful pictures of beautiful scenery and interesting tips. Loved the cactus and your accommodation sounds idyllic. A pity it's so far from Poland.
