My husband and I have travelled together for 39 years - he, the history buff ,and I, the photographer. It's a perfect combination, as I have him as my personal guide, while he has me to make him stop and smell the roses.
While our travels have been throughout the western world (with and without the kids), it seems we are continually attracted back to Cuba, where we have made 18 trips in the last 9years, covering most of the popular areas, and lots of back roads. Why? Because, of all the Caribbean Islands, Cuba is the safest, the most affordable, the cleanest, the most welcoming, the most varied, and no matter what language you speak, it will not take long before it feels like home.
We no longer camp or hitch hike, and in searching for hotels, I now look for rooms with private bathrooms....not necessarily luxury. Although, in Cuba, the price of an off season 5 star resort is often not more that the cost of the flight. Book a discount package and you can afford to leave the area on a local bumble, returning as you feel the need or in time to catch the flight home. Don't be afraid to leave the resort......you will be amazed. Live and learn.
