The principal city of the Limburg region is Maastricht. It is a must see city. Many influences are evident in this city. Dutch, German and Belguim seem to come together. The old centre is a maze of narrow cobbled streets with a distinctive charm and lots to see and explore. Maastricht is a modern and strategically important city in Europe.

On the east bank of the Maas in the Wyck area is the Centre Ceramique. It features a library, information service and a display of ceramics representing the development of Dutch culture. We were fortunate to visit when the exhibition hall on the ground floor was hosting the World Press Photo competition winning works. Fantastic visual display of modern world events with profound emotional imapct.

This is the view from Charles Eyckpark to the west bank and the old centre of Maastricht. This modern footbridge has a symbolic significance in that it makes a bold connection between the two sides of the Maas. For centuries this river has been a physical and cultural divide for the peoples of south Limburg.
