Tenerifes Cultural Capital Thousands of tourists visit Tenerife and end up in the concrete 60's jungle of Playa des Americas ,playa des ingles and lord forbid suburbian los which , all built in virtually the same year has the flavour and atmosphere of a heidi Ho British Summer camp with the architecture and soullessness to prove it. For most people they are in paradise , they all have their charms and raison de etre the sun ,relentless and solid and enduring. Pourto de la Cruz is ,in contrast hundreds of years old, has no viable port now ,is under the shade of mount Tiede ,so the evening comes sharp but it is so beautiful with charming original shops, art galleries and a charming nightlife encompassing live music, and street artists and a wealth of neat squares fountains and palm shaded nooks and crannies. It is also a real town where people go to work and schoolchildren go to school, unlike the southern jungles. |
