  • This region of New South Wales is incredibly unique because of its vicinity to both the coast and some amazing hinterland. Because most Australian towns are situated on the coast it makes for something really different to get out and experience the countryside. You will encounter the local crops such as sugar cane and macadamia, stumble across some beautiful old timber buildings and rolling green hills. Chuck a blanket down under a eucalypt tree and have a picnic before heading back to the beautiful beaches.

Off The Beaten Path: Lennox Head
  • Tip Rating:
  • Lennox Head is situated at about the mid-way point between Byron Bay and Ballina, about 5km north of Ballina. It is basically a small seaside village but one that boasts some pretty spectacular beaches. I have to admit that Lennox Head Pub is also worth a look :)

Lennox Head's beaches definitely rival Byron's especially when Byron's seem to be full of tourists. Lennox Point has a legendary near perfect right-hand break that attracts surfers from around the world. Another unique feature of Lennox is Lake Ainsworth. This is a fresh water lake whose water has been stained by all the tea trees that surround it. The water has the appearance of Coca Cola in my opinion and is excellent for your hair and skin and a nice change from the salt water beaches. It is also an excellent place for a variety of water sports including windsurfing. Lennox Point is also a great place for a spot of hangliding.

Another great page, Colleen...and another potential stop off on my journey up the coast! :-) The Big Prawn alone makes it a worthwhile stop-off ;-) Seriously, I've not seen any of Australia's famous "Big Things" yet - the prawn would be a great start! :-)

Hi Colzy! You grew up just out of Ballina huh? Whereabouts? I grew up at Knockrow and spent my high school years going to Ballina HS!
