Brooklyn Heights; Feel the hometown atmosphere!

by Dutchnatasja - last update: Jan 11, 2005

Brooklyn Heights Promenade
In 1834 the original town of Brooklyn was incorporated with the neighbourhood borders that still exist today. Today the Brooklyn Heights historic district is characterized by its shaded streets, bluestone sidewalks, and decorative ironwork with fine historic homes, churches and civic buildings.

The Brooklyn Heights Promenade

The Brooklyn Heights Promenade offers amazing views of downtown Manhattan, the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge. The Promenade opened to the public in October 1950. The Promenade is lined with flowerbeds, playgrounds, and two rows of benches. Many people come to sit and look at the view, read, relax, eat or talk. People stroll or jog along the Promenade. Tourists come to snap photographs, and TV crews come to shoot commercials and music videos with the skyline as a backdrop.

The Promenade is lined with grand townhouses and mansions, and is part of Brooklyn's first Historic Preservation District. The lucky owners of the ivy-covered townhouses, get to enjoy the view 24 hours a day. The unused waterfront is now some of the hottest real estate in the city.

Hometown atmosphere

Brooklyn Heights has a unique hometown atmosphere while situated right next door to one of the most recognizable cityscapes in the world.
