Amsterdam is the most popular destination for foreign tourists. The museums, such as the Rijksmuseum and the Vincent van Gogh Museum, the ring of canals with their mansions, the atmosphere of freedom and creativity ? many foreigners want to see them with their own eyes. But the Netherlands is also famous for its flowers: the bulb fields of North and South Holland, with their daffodils, hyacinths and tulips, attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
The Netherlands has a long coastline, with many interesting towns and villages and areas of natural beauty. Lovers of water sports, such as surfing, sailing and swimming, find conditions ideal on its many beaches and further inland on lakes, rivers and canals. The Dutch themselves like to explore the country by boat or bike. The Netherlands is criss-crossed by thousands of kilometres of cycle track, making it possible to tour the country by bike. Cycling is easier here than in most other countries ? as long as you?re not cycling against the wind. |
| | Breda and Etten-Leur and Vincent van Gogh One of my favourite city in The Netherlands is Breda. It's a very nice city with a lot of history. If you want to see more of Breda than go to my Breda TravelogueBredaI think everybody knows Vincent van Gogh*. Well he lived for some time in Etten-Leur. What most people know about this painter is that he was quite a weird person who cut his ear off and who made very remarkable, very expensive paintings. But if this is all you know about him, you do him wrong. For Vincent van Gogh painting was not only showing the world around as you can see it (objectively), but making visible the world as he saw it and experienced it (subjectively). As a painter van Gogh used his eyes, his hands and ... his heart. If you want to read and see more of Vincent van Gogh than click on the link Vincent van GoghVincent van Gogh |

You can see it in the picture; The Netherlands is famous for its windmills. The village of Kinderdijk is home to no fewer than 19 of them. They were built around 1740 and grace the marshy polders outside Dordrecht. |
