"An Old Soul and a Young Heart" ShoeBoxMemories's Profile

Where to next?

Although I'm still in college, I'm ready for the world. I have two more years here at beautiful University of Oklahoma, then I am gone with the wind.

I'm studying elementary education at the moment, because I love kids. I want to devote my life to teaching, helping, and protecting them. My dream come true would to own and operate an orphanage in a third world country. I've been searching for jobs overseas, and was so excited to find an English teaching position in Korea. But I'm also very interested in the Peace Corp. I know I need to travel the world, see the people of the world, God's beauty. I know I need to go, I just need to decide how I want to do it.

I want to learn to draw and take better photographs while I travel. But the love of life has always been writing. I'm addicted to journols, and I have decided I will never be cured. It comes with me all day, to classes, to work, the park, anywhere I go, its shoved in my backpack. You'd be amazed how much you can learn about yourself this way. See the patterns of your life.

As equal a passion of writing is my need for books. I have always read, every since my dad started reading to me as a small child. He introduced me to the Hobbit, and my love of adventure spread like a wildfire. Treasure Island, Horratio Hornblower, Les Miserables, Black Beauty, and other classics have bred in me the love and longing of adventure.

I'm a devoted Christian and have a strong need to know more of humanity. I have always lived in a rural area where every kid looked the same. Even just coming to OU was a culture shock, but it was much welcomed. I live in an apartment complex now with mostly international studetns and I LOVE the different walks of life I live near now. I have Korean neighbors, some friends from France, and we just had an Indian party with weekend. I need to see all of God's people. It is so awesome to see all of God's children, and how much He loves diversity.

Even though I can't wait to see the world, I am loving my time in college. I have awesome friends that make it all worth the sleepless nights of studying. And I have an awesome family I love to be with. I miss them even when I am here at school, and I know I will miss them when I travel, but our phone calls are hilarious and get me through from semester to semester. They also helped me find my need for travel. We take a three week camping trip every summer. We have so much fun together, and I will continue to go with them as long as they let me. Once or if ever I settle down and find a regular teaching job here in the States, it will have to be close to them.

So I have longings for the world that can only be satisfied when I go, and my heart it always on the search for beauty and God's truth. I am eager to know where I will find them...
