Liveaboard on Duang Ta and other Ko Similan, Thailand Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

Most people who visit Ko Similan go on liveaboards as the accomodation on the islands is really limited to a few bungalows on Ko Mieng. There are many liveaboards available for diving, some are also open to snorkellers. For snorkellers, I found one that is specialized for 3-day snorkelling trip. The good thing about a specialized trip is they bring you to the right spots for snorkelling or diving.This trip is managed by Olof and Tukkata, the owners of Poseidon Bungalows in Lam Kaen, near Khao Lak. The cost is 6500 baht per person and the Similan Tour is only available from November to April. Do book early as the liveaboard can only take 16 passengers, excluding the guide, chef and captains.

There are some bungalows on Ko Mieng (Island No 4) that are managed by the National Park Headquarter. Since this is the only accommodation available on the islands, the price will be rather steep. A few Swedish guys from my liveaboard couldn't sleep on the first night and they decided to stay in the bungalows at a cost of 2000 baht per bungalow (fan) for one night that accommodates 2 persons with views of the bay. The cheaper bungalows cost 1000 baht for one night but I think they do not have view of the bay. What I heard from the guysis that the beds were rather hard but the bungalows were generally fine. They were lucky as there were bungalows available at that time. Usually, you have to reserve them one month in advance by contacting the Marine National Park Division of the Royal Forest Department in Bangkok or the mark's main visitor centre on Ko Mieng.

The last option is to camp on Ko Mieng, where there is a campground near Princess Bay. The camping fee is 450 baht per night, including the tent for 2 persons.
