This hotel is located in Puxi, where all the action is.

When you enter the hotel, it wows you immediately with its grandeur. The lobby has the look and feel of an international hotel chain, even possibly better.

However, getting into the room, it's a complete change. You walk in expecting something quite spacious, but instead the room is disappointingly small.

Still, it's clean, fairly new, and has a decent Western breakfast buffet. It's also easy to move around from this hotel, with Nanjing Lu maybe 15 mins away (30 mins if you get caught in bad traffic).

For the price I paid (corporate rate), it's overall good value for money. Not luxurious, but I won't complain.

If you've got a burning desire to spend some time bathing in the lap of luxury, you've definitely got to stay in St Regis Shanghai.

Voted as the Best Business Hotel in Asia in a poll, this hotel well deserves the ratings that it has garnered from its guests.

This hotel is located in Pudong, with easy access to the business centres, and the Waigaoqiao free trade zone. The area is a trifle quiet at night, but you can easily hop across to Puxi by cab.

The rooms are gorgeous, with plenty of space for luggage, a big work desk, and daily fresh fruits. The bathroom is another winning point, in fact one of the largest I've come across.

Only showstopper that I can think of is the steep price, but if that doesn't pose a problem, I'd recommend this hotel anytime.

Golden Trans-Ocean is located in an office building, where the 18th to 24th floors have been converted into service apartments.

The hotel is very conveniented located, being just one street away from Nanjing Lu. It's also very easy to get from the hotel to other major areas, e.g. Huaihai Lu, Xizang Lu, the Bund etc.

My family and I stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment. The apartment is simply but comfortably furnished, and you feel just like you've moved into a home away from home.

The living room comes with a good-sized tv, with another tv in the master bedroom. There is a separate dining area, together with a kitchen if you would like to do some cooking while you're there.

The bedrooms themselves are reasonable in size, not large, yet not so small that you feel cramped.

The apartment came with only one bathroom, nicely appointed, with basic amenities that you might need.

I find this place extremely suitable if you are travelling with your family or friends. Service apartments give you the convenience of having everyone in the same premises, yet retain individual privacy with separate bedrooms. It works out a lot cheaper too, as compared to getting multiple rooms at a hotel.

Do note that you are not expected to spend much time in the hotel, so dining facilities and other recreational facilities (e.g. pool, gym) are virtually non-existent. But there's plenty to do in Shanghai, so you should not miss these overly.

Unique Qualities: Though the apartment building is centrally located, it may still take some effort for taxi drivers to find the building, as it is somewhat nondescript.

The immediate surroundings seem to be full of electrical shops, selling industrial spare parts. But there's a street lined with restaurants just one block away, and if you take the subway/hail a taxi, you will have no problems getting anywhere.

It's also easy to book, and you can easily do so through the website, www.travelchinaguide.com. A 2-room apartment for the 3 of us only cost us RMB 608 per night, that works out to be just USD 85!

It was my first time at the JW Marriott. While this is a very good business hotel, but you can only say so much after staying in business hotels all the time.

Must say that it has nice conference facilities, and the ambience is very good all round. Amenities are all there, and the view is stunning from the rooms.

I guess the most interesting thing about the hotel is that the lobby is located on the 38th floor, unlike most hotels which have theirs on the ground floor. So immediately when you check in, you get a fantastic view of the city skyline.

But like I said, it's a business hotel, and as far as I'm concerned, this meets all my expectations, but it doesn't strike me as being particularly memorable.
