    For some reason, Dun Laoghaire has a number of charity shops on its main street. Because the surrounding suburbs are well off, they tend to have nice stuff!

    What To Buy: Books, Clothes knick knacks

    What To Pay: Not much to quite a bit!

    Cavistons is an institution in Dun Laoghaire, where it has for many years been known as the place to go for fish. It's also has a great delicatessan and a small but v good restaurant for lunch. Its a handy spot to pop into on your way to and from the James Joyce Martello tower in Sandycove (Increasingly the area seems to be known as Sandycove cos its trendier but I've always known it as Glasthule and I don't feel like changing :)

    What To Buy: Fish!

    What To Pay: Middling prices tho depends what you're getting

    This bookshop, located up a hill just off the main street in Dublin, has a good selection of books for kids and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Staff are friendly too.

    What To Buy: Pop-up books of all sorts!

    What To Pay: About the same as elsewhere

    This shop has a great range of models of all sorts. To be honest some of them would be a bit beyond most kids but theres something to suit most price ranges and interests. They have a strong range of military vehicles, aircraft, figurines and just about anything else you might want.

     The quality of the food is mixed. It's a faceless chain, but useful if there's a group of people who want different things; you can order a three course meal while your friend has a pint, anything goes.
