The GastroPub company: The shape of things to come?

This newly opened place, just across from the Pavilion Theatre in the centre of town, combines good food with a convivial pub atmosphere. They serve food pretty late so handy of you get the munchies after a performance at the Theatre :)

It has the feel of a chain franchise about it and I have horrible visions of seeing them pop up on every corner, but while theres still just one here its fine.

FitzGerald's: Sandycove

Another of the old pubs of Dun Laoghaire. Only really handy if you've been visiting the Joyce tower and decide to go on a pub crawl on the way back :-)

Heart of the old village of Glasthule - Dun Laoghaire
Eagle House: Heart of the old village of Glasthule

The Eagle house is one of a number of old pubs in the Dun Laoghaire area. Nowadays, all the little villages along the coast have merged into one suburban strip but there are still people who are proud of being from Glasthule instead of Sandycove :-)

Address: 18 Glasthule Rd

Directions: Walk along the coast from Dun Laoghaire town and you'll come to Glasthule, which has several nice restaurants, a few clothes shops, a nice church. a recycling center, a train station and a good barbers!

40 Foot: Overlooking the Harbour

The 40 Foot is almost terminally trendy and popular with a youngish crowd. It has a great location overlooking the harbour and is a haven for funky chairs of all sorts :-) The food on the next floor up is good but expensive.

Dress Code: Anything goes though girls may want to bring a little bling.

Address: The avilion, Royal Marine Road

Directions: Centre of twon, close to the train station

Walters: Relaxed Place

Walters is an old pub that is literally unrecognisable from what it was a few years ago. Its now a very modern, slightly flashy place that serves good food and has big screens so people can watch sports of an afternoon. Comfortable seats and a light and airy feel.

Directions: Near Peoples Park

Purty Kitchen: Its a nightspot and restaurant

The Purty loft is an old Pub (est 1728) which has been extensively modernised. Its lost a little character but its still a nice place to come for a drink, serves excellent food and has a night club (Coast). A couple of night a week they have live bands in ther bar. Generally a mixed if older crowd. No idea about nightclub as I've never been.

Only problem with it is that its too popular, especially for food. You may have to wait for a table or book in advance!

Address: 3-5 Old Dun Laoghaire Road, Monkstown

Directions: Close to the West Pier of Dun Laoghaire. If on the Dart get off at Salthill station.
