Teddy's is generally regarded as selling the best Ice Cream in Dublin (there may be some who dispute this but they're misguided and should be more pitied then condemned !:-)

People come from all over Dublin to queue before the holy hatch on Sunny days. As a result can be a bit of a crowd at times but its worth persevering

Restaurant Na Mara: One of the best seafood places in the city
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Restaurant Na Mara

Set in part of the old train station building, R na M is very handy if you come to Dun Laoghaire by train. Very simple yet chic interior is complemented by pleasant and efficient service. This is a place to come for a special occasion or with that special someone!

Last time I was there the atmosphere was great but I suspect that if the room isn't full it may lose some of its ambience.

    Favorite Dish: Salmon

    Fish may vary.

    Itsa Bagel: Handy Location
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Itsa Bagel

Part of a several strong chain that have sprung up in Dublin, this one is handy for a coffee and a toasted bagel before or after a walk down the pier (so undoing any good the exercise is doing for you :-)

Also along this strip of restuarants and coffee places are Mao's (Asian fusion http://www.cafemao.com) and Roly's (modern Irish/European http://www.rolyatthepav.com/menus.html), which are obviously more for when you really want to eat something. Personally I find Mao's just OK and I prefer the original branch of Roly's in Ballsbridge to the one here. Tend to go to Mao's more as its usually possible to get a table and I like the dumplings they sometimes have as starters :-)

Further along the row is a new gourmet burger joint, which I have to say does great burgers of all sorts :) and has rather nice simple decor. Also a small Insomnia cafe (Irelands answer to Starbucks!) attached to the expensive lifestyle shop Meadows and Byrne.

Favorite Dish: A plain toasted bagel and Coffee!

Nice, simple cafe on second floor of main street (so watch out or you'll miss it. Always busy and buzzing with people. Staff are friendly and seats are comfy, especially in the corners. Relaxed atmosphere encourages you to stay for a while.

Favorite Dish: Breakfast options are all good.

Purple ocean restaurant: Cool place overlooking the harbour
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Purple ocean restaurant

This is a great restaurant located at the top of the ferry terminal in the harbour. It has a really nice balcony to sit out on when days are fine and a round room with windows on all sides upstairs which would be great for a party or function. Service is excellent and the staff are all very friendly. Food is wonderful, with portions being just the right side (neither nouvelle cuisine nor ploughmans lunch :) The focus is on seafood, but of course there are plenty of other things on the menu. The main dining room is very nicely laid out and has a light and airy atmosphere. All in all cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Prices are maybe a bit above normal for restaurants here (10-12 euro for a starter/ 20-25 for a main) but I was very happy to pay them for the quality of the food and atmosphere and will continue to return there!

Favorite Dish: Sea bass. Because they treat it very simply and let the basic ingredient speak for itself :-)

Rasam: The coolest Indian in the burbs
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Rasam

Rasam's is a new and very stylish Indian restaurant in Glasthule. The decor and food are a cut above what might be expected and in fact it could be argued that this may be the best Indian in the city!

Hello from South Africa.. and good tips, if I ever should go to Ireland.

The quality of the food is mixed. It's a faceless chain, but useful if there's a group of people who want different things; you can order a three course meal while your friend has a pint, anything goes.

Interesting page with helpful tips. I once stayed a couple of days in Dun Liri and explored Dublin and its lovely coastline from there. Your page brings back many memories. Keep up the good work. :-)
