I am a social worker. It can be relentlessly tiring and is
painfully underpaid, as these things go. However, it is
also relentlessly satisfying. Nothing fascinates me
more than people and I believe that everyone has some beauty
within if you pay attention. I like that paying attention
is my career.

I started out doing child protective work exclusively. It is definitely my passion. I can't imagine I will ever fully leave chid protective work. Now, I split my time between child protective and more clinical work. I love what I do.

In ways defined by the crazy US social system, I grew up unabashedly on the wrong side of the tracks (actually, unabashedly came later), but because of where I grew up, I had no idea until later in life. Spending the formative years being raised in a community of mostly aging hippies was a great thing that way. It also means that the words to "kumbiya" and phrases like "We're all God's children" (in an entirely non-organized religion way) were etched into my young mind. I even lived on a commune - twice. I think it was a good thing. My more Republican friends shake their heads in concerned ways and pray for my fiscal soul. Frankly, I've got to love them for that...

I think it's only been in the past three or so years that I've really started feeling "itchy" at home. I'm sad for all the trips I didn't take throughout my life (not that we had the resources), but very excited about the trips in my future!

I took my mom on her first cruise last year and she loved it (thankfully). Her interest in travel has now been renewed. We get along well (finally) and so are beginning now to travel together. She's a great travel partner and all around amazing woman.
