The Loue runs out of Ouhans (in the north of Pontarlier) toward Parcey (downstream from Dole in the french Jura).
The river is classified one of the most beautiful rivers of Europe for fishing.
And not only for fishing : The springs are very spectacular, in a beautiful forest environment, making it a great touristic interest; the part between the source of Loue and Ornans is especially nice.
There, on a few 20 kilometers, it loses 229 meters of altitude. Add a very regular flow, and you get a ideal course for canoe's descents.
While "Sources de la Loue" translates in "Loue's springs", it is not exactly a spring but a resurgence of another river : the Doubs;
This dicovery was made on a rather funny way : in 1901, when the factories Pernod (from Pastis fame) in Pontarlier burnt after being struck by lightning. Some days later, traces of wormwood and of dye were found in the Loue.
