Pasto Travel Guide: 34 reviews and 54 photos

Pasto is today the political capital as well as, at 450,000 inhabitants, the largest city in Colombias Narino department. At an average altitude of just over 2500m, it is also the highest, and thus coldest, of Colombias departmental capitals. As with other cities in the area and despite having been founded in 1537, by Lorenzo de Aldana, Pasto lacks much in the way of historic buildings. This is due to desruction by earthquakes. That being said, the area around Plaza de Narino is quite nice.

About 30 minutes from the city is the small town of Cochas, which sits on the shores of the Cocha Lake. Just offshore is an island, La Corota, which is a nature preserve, that cn be visited. If possible, it is worth visitting on sundays, when lots of people go to the chapel on the island.
