Journey to the West

Arthur's Pass was named after Arthur Dobson who made the first survey of the pass in 1864.

To get to the West Coast from Christchurch, we took State Highway 73 which passes over Arthur's Pass.

The main road between Christchurch and Greymouth (State Highway 73) goes right through the park and the village of Arthur's Pass. Although it may be winding in some places, it is one of the most scenic routes in New Zealand.

Arthur's Pass village is situated in the centre of the park and is 154 km from the city of Christchurch in the east (2 hrs drive) and 100 km from Greymouth in the west. (1.5 hrs drive) .

The Tranz Alpine train also stops at Arthur's Pass. Regular bus services operate between Greymouth, Hokitika and Christchurch.

Beautiful Sceneries

We were so excited to see mountains covered with snow and took lots of pics. Is this gd enough for screen saver or post card? ;p

Arthur's Pass Village

Just behind the Chapel is a path leading to a waterfall. It is a very easy climb bcos it takes only 10 mins for a return trip! Dont miss it even if you are rushing for time.
