Patong beach: Patong Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Patong Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Phuket. It has a stretch of white sandy beach. You may choose to simply have a walk along the beach or do some adventurous water sports like parasailing, jet skiing, taking a ride on the banana boat or just laze around the beach and build a sand castle, jogging, suntan and wait for the sun to set.

Beach umbrellas and deck chairs are for rental and there are many café and restaurant just across the street.

Kata and Karon beach: Kata Noi Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Located south of Kata is Kata Noi Beach. It is a smaller beach with only a few hotels and a few other developments.

The beach is beautiful and very peaceful. I was able to take a good shot from one of the hotels up over the top of the hill from Kata.

You can have a gret view of Kata Noi Beach shoreline from Kata View Point.

More beaches and caves: Kamala Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Just 10 minutes north of Patong is the more laid back and family orientated Kamala Beach.

Kamala beach is one of the largest and more popular beaches of Phuket. It is more peaceful here and without all the go-go bars and noise which makes it a perfect for family with young kids to hang around and relax at the beach.

The Kamala beachfront is lined with public park area and natural Casuarina forest. The beach stretches across two mile crescent on the west coast.

More beaches and caves: Surin Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Surin Beach is situated on the west coast of Phuket. It is situated at the curving bay on the north of Kamala Beach and located at the foothills.

You can picture yourself strolling on a powdery white sandy beach on Surin Beach. During rainy season, the huge waves are not safe for swimming or any water sports. But it is the place where you may witness beautiful sunsets in Phuket.

Surin beachfront is where you will find many of the locals escaping from the touristy Patong Beach. Our gueshouse host highly recommend Surin and Laem Singh Beach for a relaxing holiday.

Kata and Karon beach: Karon Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Karon Beach is the second largest beach in Phuket. Located just south of Patong Beach, it is easily accessible by the well paved roads.

Karon Beach is a world of difference from Patong Beach. It is more peaceful here and without all the sleazy bars and noise which makes it a perfect place for family with young kids to hang around.

The sand is very white and fine over here and a very nice beach where you can do your water sports or just relax and read a book or sun tan on the beach. There are lots of upmarket resorts along Karon Beach area.

There are many restaurants, bars, tour companies at the north end near the traffic circle. We almost stayed at Kata Villa (THB500) but in the end we stayed at Casa Jip (THB400) at the heart of Patong Beach.

Kata and Karon beach: Kata Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • Kata is about 20 to 30 minutes drive from Patong and about 40 minutes to Phuket Town.

Kata Beach is a world of difference from Patong Beach. It is more peaceful here and without all the sleazy bars and noise which makes it a perfect place for family with young kids to hang around.

Although Kata beach is smaller than Patong, it still offers similar amenities like beautiful beachfront resorts, restaurants and great shopping. The stretch of long and narrow white sandy beach are lined with palm trees overlooking the clear water and the offshore Bu island.

Promthep cape: Sunset at Promthep Cape
  • Tip Rating:
  • You may like to view the sunset from Patong Beach, Kata View Point and the best place is at Promthep Cape which have an unblocked view of the sea.

We drove our rented car up to Promthep cape. Do get there slightly before the sunset and the best view is just before the sun is setting. The view from Promthep Cape is breathaking. It is cooling just before the sunset, so you may like to sit by the restaurant and have a drink or dinner.

There were 3 person who circled in the air on their motorized parachute. I think that would be a great way to see the sun set. But it added some noise poluation to the peaceful sunset view.

Promthep cape: Promthep Cape - Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse
  • Tip Rating:
  • Phuket Promthep cape
  • Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse
  • by imstress , 4 more photos
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse is a mini-lighthouse museum. You can have a 360 degree view of the Promthep Cape and its surrounding from here. But we still prefers the sunset at the landing area.

You must remove your footware at the entrance. Please remain silence so that you will not disturb the rest.

From here you will also see the monument of Prince of Jumborn who was in the Navy in 1880. He was the 28th son of Rama V. When he turned 13 years old, the prince was sent to England to study to become a naval cadet in Royal Naval Academy of England. He returned 6 years later and built the first military base in Phuket.

You will also find a shrine with hundreds or thousands of wooden elephants in various sizes. The locals gathered here to pay their respect and worshiped these wooden carved elephants.

    Temples: Wat Chalong
  • Tip Rating:
  • Wat Chalong is about 8 kilometres from Phuket town. It is located near to Promthep Cape. It will take about an hor to visit this temple. As this is an active temple, you must dress appropriatly for a visit to a place of worship.

Wat Chalong is the largest and most important temle in Phuket. Its most ornate architecture is typical of a Thai temples and the design emphasized bright colours. The murals on the walls are quite interesting.

Admission to the temple is free but you may like to leave some donation.

Kata and Karon beach: Kata View Point
  • Tip Rating:
  • Kata View Point can be accessed through the well paved winding road. The same road will lead you to Promthep Cape where you can have an awesome view of the orange sunset.

Once you are up here, you are able to have a paranomic view of the spectacular
and very beautiful beaches of the Kata Noi, Kata and Karon beach.
