Fried Calamari - Johor Bahru

Fried Calamari

Restoran Todak (Orang Asli): Restoran Todak (Orang Asli)

Restoran Todak (Orang Asli) is located in Johor Bahru near Pasir Gudang.

It is kind of a hard to find place and you have to drive thru some dark bushes at night for about 3 mins before reaching the seaside at Telok Jawa.

If you are driving there, take the Pasir Gudang Highway (near the new Jusco) and take the 1st exit and head towards Tmn Megah Ria. Look for Jalan Kota and Jln Jelatang on your map. Turn into Telok Jawa when you are at Jln Jelatang and drive among the bushes for about 3mins and you will end up by the seaside. Drive further in until you see the big car park for Restoran Todak (Orang Asli).

Restoran Todak (Orang Asli) is built on stilts. You will enjoy the sea breeze and view of Sembawang Shipyard as you dine in this crowded restaurant.

Chiili Mussels (Tuah Tao) - Johor Bahru
Big Head (Tuah Tao): Chiili Mussels (Tuah Tao)

Tuah Tao is a kind of shellfish. Best eaten when they are fried in chilli sauce.
The smaller version is called La La.

Gong Gong is also another popular shell fish dish. They are boiled and dip into a chilli sauce. You will have to use a pick to eat the flesh.

Chu Chu is another shellfish that we normally eat. You will have to suck the juice and pick the meat out.

Cockles are best eaten almost raw. The cockles must be thrown into hot boiling water and the shell will be slightly opened . Cockles may be a little bloody and fishy for some. It somehow tasted like raw oysters.
