Travel - what else am I going to do with my life

by travelbug102 - last update: Oct 12, 2005

Seattle on the horizon

ferry ride in to Seattle with my wife
This was taken on the ferry coming into Seattle from Bainbridge, one of the islands in the Puget Sound, about a 40 minute ride from Seattle. When I meet people at the youth hostel in Seattle on my volunteering, I alway suggest spending $5 on a r/t ferry ride and get the nice view of the city coming in - rather than spend $30-$40 on some cheesy harbor tour.

Drinking Pals - Bulgaria

If for no other reason, Bulgaria is worth a stop on your Eastern Europe itinerary for the amount of cheap, plentiful and delicious food and drink. I ate like a king in Veliko Tarnovo and then proceeded to drink like a fish with a nice mixture of travelers: one Brit, one Frenchman, one Canadian and a fellow American. Good pilsner and dirt cheap rum and Cokes were nice but I'll always remember the incredible platters of food. Great stuff!!

(of course there are other reasons to visit here like the old painted monasteries, refurbished villages and ruined fortresses)
Beer and good times in 2001

Blast from the Past

This was taken at the Tivoli festival, hosted every July by the Nordic Heritage museum. I used to go every year to get the lingenberry pancakes, a cold beer and raffle tickets for a free SAS ticket. I've missed the last 2-3 years due to sheer laziness. I shall return some year.

Georgian Feast

Before my wife came here from Russia, I bought the Georgian cookbook and it has great recipies! For my birthdays in 2001 and 2002, Natasha would bust out the book and make a variety of really tasty dishes. Jorge would bring his homebrew with. Is it something the Georgian would have, probably not, they're more into wine I gather. But his brew is damn fine and you gotta wash down all this fine food with something.

I have no idea why we haven't done this recently. It's a good alternative to a BBQ and there are so many unusual dishes. I keep telling myself that if/when I win the lottery, I will host a real Georgian Fest in Georgia and invite all my friends.
