Rauma Travel Guide: 95 reviews and 223 photos

Rauma is known for three historic features: picturesque Old Rauma, the elegance of its lace and a distinctive dialect - the Rauma language. Old Rauma is one of the several UNESCO world heritage sites in Finland. The urban site exemplifies an original Nordic wooden town, and the residents are proud of Rauma’s architecture. Lace-making in Rauma has a long history, originally brought to Rauma by seamen, this cottage industry still flourishes with handmade lace being the town’s calling card. The Rauma dialect has its origins from Swedish, English and German, due to the seafaring influence of the town, but real-life usage has fallen wayside, and the written form of the language is largely practiced as a hobby.
The must see attraction in Rauma is the Old Town. It is the largest uniform wooden town in the Nordic Countries, and it was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List on the eve of the 550th anniversary of the city (1991). The oldest inhabited buildings date back even to the 17th century.

Another great new page with brilliant photos. It looks like you had lovely weather on your visit. The Maritime Museum with Jenny seems to be interesting. ;-)
