    Getting TO/AROUND: The rail station of Venice is situated close to Piazza Roma. Trains go directly to the island across the bridge from Mestre.     Getting TO/AROUND: The majority of visitors to Venice all arrive by car. Quiet a problem since the "streets" of Venice are all waterways. Hence after you have crossed the bridge from the Italian mainland in Mestre it is time to leave your car - on offer are a number of parking garages and parking areas to the right (after crossing the bridge) where you can leave your car. Piazza Roma is within walking distance, and from here one can explore Venice on foot, by water taxi or gondola.

    Getting TO/AROUND: One of the easiest and least expensive ways to explore Venice is by water bus. Many stations can be found on the main channels and tickets and day passes are available. 152 water busses can be boarded from around 100 water bus stations!! The locals call the water bus the vaporetto.

     Hi Mike, I read your commentary with interest. Very honest and informative. I have visited just once and am due for another visit someday soon again hopefully! It is a magical city once you get past the crowds.
