This semi circle theatre was built around 150 AD by one of the main families of Ephesus. It could seat 1400 spectators and was used for concerts and other entertainment.

This was in the old times something what we would call a town hall today. However it was destroyed and some items of the Prytaneion were used to build parts of the Scholastika Baths, however were later returned back to Ephesus.

The spread of Roman Cult was distributed to Asia Minor during Augustan times. The temple was built to celebrate the Goddess Rome and also Julius Caesar. Octavius who was Caesars adopted sun and became the Emperor Augustus authorized the building of the temple in 29 BC.

Things To Do: The Pollio Fountain

It is estimated that this fountain was built in 97AD and is situated next to the Domitian Square. The purpose is quiet clear, its hot summers somewhere water had to be provided to all the merchants and visitors to the city, hence the fountain was created.

|
Emperor Domitian granted for the first time a decree that Ephesus allowed to build a temple. This massive temple where the podium alone is 24 by 34 meters created on a terrace that is 50 by 100 meters large. Hence the Emperor laid his own memory in dedication to himself.

Curettes Road: Curettes Street
|

|
This is one of the main roads in Ephesus leading passed many shops, fountains and temples down to the library. One can easily imagine how busy this road was during the peak of Ephesus when 250.000 people lived here. The name Curettes originates from a class of priests that existed in Ephesus.

Things To Do: Trajan Fountain

Along the main Curettes Road one can find this fountain. The original fountain reached a height of 12 meters and was built between 102 and 104 AD.

These massive houses are now in a separate exhibition right next to the Curettes Street. Some of these houses were three storey buildings that housed the rich business and trades families of Ephesus.

Many archaeological excavations which are still very active in Ephesus discover many finds such as utensils that were used by the families living here in the antique. Some look like as if the owners had left yesterday, preserved by centuries of dust and sand covering them.
