Turkish Airlines

If there is one airline that has impressed me in the last years that is Turkish Airlines. Both flights from Germany to Turkey and from Turkey to South Africa were first class with superb service and stunning hospitality. The crew was simply great and with modern new planes this airline out shined.

Ferries

A constant traffic of Ferries crosses the Bosporus and the Golden Horn. They are called “vapur” and are run by the Istanbul Sea Bus Company. The principal ferry terminus on the European side is Eminönü. Each of the six piers has a boarding hall, with the destination being advertised on large displays outside. On the west side of the Galata Bridge one can find the pier for ferries up the Golden Horn. Another terminus is Karaköy directly opposite Eminönü. Ferries between Eminönü to Kadiköy run between 7:30 and 21:00 and from Eminönü to Üsküdar between 6 and 23:30.

Istanbul Taxis

Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive in Istanbul. All taxis are yellow and marked with the word “Taksi” on the roof. Most of the times you will have no problems since the majority of taxi drivers are honest, yet be cautious since there are some around that will try and rip you off.
Always insist that the meter is on, tipping is not customary, simply round up the amount to the next highest round amount.
