"Eilat - A day Visit" Eilat by MikeAtSea

For my visit to Israel I crossed from the Jordanian border town of Aqaba to Eilat.

In contrast to what everyone had said about Israel and also the picture that had been portrait in the media, I took a taxi to the Jordanian border town, cleared immigration and walked through the no-mans land across to Israel. On the Israeli side I was greeted by a young lady who checked if I had any explosives or weapons on me and the guided me through further security checks to the immigration and customs offices. A smooth process and a short while later I was on my way to Eilat.

The Israeli town of Eilat bordering the Gulf of Aqaba is a bustling vacation town, and even at the times of the Intifada one could not see any evidence of the fact that there is any unrest in Israel. The streets were bustling, shops were filled and sporadic security check were done when entering larger shopping complexes.

What amazed me the most is, though the town is so close to Jordan and having seen what Aqaba looked like - there was a difference of night and day. After a few hours I made my way back, shopping bags in hand, by taxi to the Israeli border post and then crossing back into Jordan.
