Where is it?

Kimberling City sits roughly at the NW corner of Table Rock Lake, the western water impoundment of the White River, which runs South (and W>E) of Branson. This lake is the original bait of the trap that Branson has become; it is now exceded by the entertainment industry. The City is a small town off State Highway 13. It lies just north of the bridge over the lake, marked by strip malls on each side of the road at the first traffic light (with no visible town offices). Originally the town (then named Radical) was a river ford, then a ferry landing and finally had a bridge ovver the White River. With the damming in1959, the area was submerged, the present bridge was built and the redients reestablished on higher ground. Its proximity to the expanding Branson sprawl and the largest and most beautiful part of the lake, has led to the dvelopment of over 10 vacation resorts and timeshares. The visitors are catered to by local eateries and markets in the strip malls and up the road north to and beyond the junction with Highway 76 out of Branson which is called Branson West (also described by us).

Why We Decided to Stay Here

Rather than stay at a timeshare available to us at Fairfield Resorts, we exchanged it for "equivalent" units at the Kimberling Inn Resort & Vacation Club. We did this to have close access to the lake and to be out of the traffic of Branson. A description of our accomodations here follows in the appropriate section.

Why Branson?

We purchased a timeshare to provide an annual meeting place for our far spread and still growing family. We did not want to go to the same place every year and we wished to distribute the longer travel stresses fairly. This said, it is not as easy as it sounds. Companies like Fairfield Resorts are multibillion dollar operations with over 100,000 "owners" (some call them "suckers") who are all looking for their type of vacation, many times the same as yours, and the number of openings varies. One has to plan far ahead which is not easy when four family units are involved. We have succeeded 3 times and a fourth and fifth are on the boards. Whatever else can be said, the Fairfield units we have used are as close to 4 (or 5) star accomodations as you can find.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Accessibility is directly proportional to the distance from Branson center
  • Cons:You may not get what you think you planned for
  • In a nutshell:We stayed in Branson without going there
