A Short Stop | Town Square and Town Hall |
Our route from Noyon to Amiens took us near Peronne (pop. 10K) and so we drove in to see what it looked like as our guide book suggested. It indeed had a pleasant town center at the Pl. Louis-Daudre, with a faithfully restored Hotel de Ville (Town Hall). On another edge of the square was the only church that survived WW I, St.-Jean-Batiste. Further off to the west was an old 13C chateau-museum (about daily life in WW I) which we did not visit. We relaxed a little by walking to the Porte de Bretagne and its ramparts, and then we left. |
