En Route to Locronon

It was another short drive (21 km) from Concarneau, of a mid-Sunday afternoon with Quimper our destination. Since we are cathedral buffs, that was our goal. We did not allot time to see the old town or visit the fine art museum, but the cathedral was worth the stop, even though in those days it was undergoing extensive renovation. The work area was hidden behind a clever scrim covered with a "tromp l'oiel" view of the occluded choir and altar. After an hour or so,we headed on to just outside of Locronon, some 20km from Quimper arriving at our base fro the next 3 nights at the Chateau de Moeillian.

Gothic to the Teeth

The large impressiveness of the church is enhanced by its Flamboyant Gothic style and its tall spired towers added in the mid 19C in perfect harmony with what came before. It is weathering to match its 4 centuries earlier lower facade. The community obviously cherishes its church!
