Bursa was the Ottoman capital before Edirne. Today, unlike Edirne, it is a city of 1.5 million people and is a repidly developing industrial and commercial center. Because of the city's historical treasure, it will take you all day to visit Bursa and you will want to stay in extra day.

Osman-Orhan Ghazi (Victor)
The two mausoleum belong to the founders of the Ottoman State, Osman Bey and his son, the conqueror of Bursa, Orhan Bey. They are located in a terrace with a magnificent view of Bursa and beyond.

Ulu Cami
This, the "Grand Mosque" is located in the commercial center of town, next to the covered bazaar and silk manufacturers' bazaar (Koza Han). Built at the end of the 14th century, the Ulu Cami is an interesting example of the period before the classical Ottoman architecture. It is worth the visit with its water fountain inside and its pulpit which is considered to be a masterpiece on woodworking.

Bursa is not just history, it is also modern architecture and shopping centres like this one.

Close to the Ataturk Caddesi, the Zafer Plaza is perhaps the ultimate place to spend an afternoon's shopping in Bursa and this modern mall really stands out on the Cemal Nadir Caddesi, being a dramatic glass-glad pyramid and often compared to the Louvre Art Gallery in Paris.

The Zafer Plaza great contrasts with the city's most traditional Turkish architecture and mosques and is otherwise known as the Pyramid Centre.

In total, there are more than 100 different outlets to the found at the Bursa Zafer Plaza, including a number of familiar designed brands and plenty of places to eat.

For a taster of traditional Turkish shopping, then do check out the covered bazaar of Bursa (Kapali Carsi) just few meters ahead/behind the Grand Mosque, which is full of atmosphere and bargains. This bazaar is the perfect place to bargain over Ottoman silk scarves, linens, table clothes and clothing, and of course, towels and bathrobes. Don't miss a trip to the Old Mirrored Market of Bursa (Eski Aynali Carsi), where Karagoz shadow puppets are a speciality.
