Welcome to the wonderful town of San Giminiano: the town with the towers.
One of the main attractions of San Gimignano (located just 35 Km north from Siena) are its medieval towers. In the Middle Ages the rich rich families competed in the erection of high towers, that served as lodgings, fortresses and prestige symbols. The town became very famous in the Renaissance times because it was a stopping point for pilgrims on their way to Rome along the via Francigena. In the town you can see about 15 towers and fantastic buildings with a very interesting architecture. Another interesting place is the Collegiata with wonderful frescos. From 1990 it is in the World Heritage List.
