Good for swimming anytime from Dec - March. Other months only if you don't mind cold water ;-)
For two defences, Auckland New Zealand was proud holder of yachtings famous America's Cup. The city came alive like at no other time and the racing was held off the beaches near my house so it made for fantastic viewing. It was exciting having friends in other countries watching on TV and seeing a bit of my local landscape. Unfortunately in 2003 we lost the Cup (not that I'm bitter of course, but the Swiss bought all our best sailors!!! ) .
I was lucky enough to get out on a press boat for one of the races. We followed right in behind the boats as they raced - an unforgettable day.
- Pros:The harbour, beaches, value for money
- Cons:Changeable weather, traffic
- In a nutshell:Come & see for yourself - I know a good tourguide ;-)

Hi Daniel. I really enjoyed your tips & insights. I actually work for the main sponsor (bank) of Alinghi... don't hold it against me! hahaha! Greetings from Dubai :-) Jess
Hello Daniel! Beautiful opening page. I think I'd prefer swimming from April to November! I didn't really stay in Auckland when in NZ, my flight home left from there. Looks lovely. Happy birthday from Finland!
It's been years since I was in Auckland...1971!! Might make it back one day...... In the meantime I'll see you at the BIG Melb Meet in May : )
It's fantastic to read about swimming with dolphins when it's blizzard outside! Thank you for sharing and waiting for more pics and tips form your new hometown!
That's a beautiful beach in your hometown! We don't have anything like this in Toronto.
!!! How did my name got hauled here ??? :-p
One day, it will be muddybokinnz. Btw, can we overnight at your new office, instead of checking into backpacker lodge? I think Jen will definitely second me.
GREAT PICS AND TIPS! WOULD LIKE TO VISIT NEW ZELAND SOME DAY! HAPPY TRAVELS ANNA
Would love to hear more about Aukland. April 2006 will be our first visit, tho' we know the South Island well - Wanaka's Warbirds take us there every 2 years and we always hit another part of beautiful NZ when we go. -leyle
