Vienna was the middle leg of my Central Europe tour during November of 2004. I first went to Budapest and later to Prague. Of the three Vienna was most definitely the most modern and the most ornate city. Their underground metro system is very easy to use and it was an amazing sight to rise out of the metro on the escalator and see Stephansdom Cathedral looming incredibly over me. |

| | Hofburg Palace The imperial palace, a favorite winter residence of the Hapsburgs grew progressively larger over the centuries. There are no traces of the original building.
The fortress had been built as a defense against the Turkish and Hungarians attacks upon Vienna, which lasted until the end of the 17 century. Later, Hapsburg rulers turned it into a palace, continually embellishing their residence. |

| | National Library We spent hours walking around Vienna during the nightime and took in it's beautifully lit buildings and monuments. Here is a photo I took in front of the National Library, which is a part of the Hofburg Palace complex. |

| Pros: | "Great Metro System, Statues on every street" | | Cons: | "Most buildings are new but designed to look old, thus making the city's aged look seem very fake" | | In A Nutshell: | "Vienna is a rebuilt city with an old look...but it is as modern as it seems old and is very beautiful" |
