My group arrived in Venice after an afternoon visit to Verona. I quickly checked into my hotel room and then rejoined the others on the bus for our ride to the main island and our gondola tour.

It was very cool...but the sun was still shining and we were all in such awe of this unique place that the weather did not bring our spirits down. The ride was very pleasant and later that evening we had dinner at a nice restaurant located a short walk from St. Mark's.

I highly recommend a climb up the Venice clock tower for some of the best views of Venice. Here is a picture of the mouth of the Grand Canal. I can't recall exactly how much the ticket cost to ride up to the top but it was something between 4-6 Euro, and they provide an elevator!!

If you visit Venice I believe it is pretty much a requirement to take a gondola ride. It was actually a good deal having our group arrange the gondola ride for us. They can be quite expensive regularly, so we split the cost and it was reasonable. We also had a nice man playing the accordian for us.
