The Travel'n Teacher

by cmarsek - last update: Jan 4, 2006

About the author...

Europe by Train!
I'm originally from St. Louis, Missouri but moved to the Houston, Texas area after college to take a job teaching high school history. I currently teach both U.S. and World History and coach girls' soccer. I'm also the sponsor for the Student Council and the Key Club at our school, which is an organization dedicated to volunteering and community service.

Working in the school is amazing because of all of the opportunities I have to make a difference in the lives of my students. Each day I go to work I come home with some feeling of accomplishment.
Paperwork!?
Paperwork!!...The downside to teaching...or any job I suppose. The upside is when I have the opportunity to interact with the students and make a difference in their lives.
I had my classes in the computer lab for a great project where they were able to plan a trip to another part of the world. Can you tell I enjoy traveling???

One of my students snapped this shot of me standing at the back of the lab watching their progress. It's January so I'm in my cold weather coaching gear.
Happy With My Classes
Gotta love keeping busy!

Key Club...

In addition to teaching I am also the sponsor for the Key Club, which is an organization devoted to community service. One of my students captured me here in the afternoon after school while we are helping to paint over grafiti and move extra chairs to storage. In the picture I'm on the move to supervise another area of the project.

My new best friend!

I randomly ran into...almost literally...Conan O'Brian on the streets of NYC
