Spectacular Florence

by Donna_in_India - last update: Feb 12, 2009

Florence (Firenze) is a wonderful walkable city with such fantastic history, culture and art. It is truly a beautiful city. World famous is the cupola (Duomo) of Florence's cathedral, an amazing site from several points overlooking the city. I love the churches, the sculptures, the food, and the friendly, animated people!
Florence is a very easy city to navigate and trains into and out of the city are clean, comfortable, and convenient.

The surrounding countryside is very beautful as well. Somehow, no matter how crowded Florence gets (and it can get very crowded!), there is something I find extremely peaceful about Florence.

If your time in Florence is short, plan out your days carefully. Make sure to check weekly and/or holiday closings for museums and plan around them. Allow extra time for lines, even in the off-season. Buy admission tickets online, where available. Bring comfortable shoes and allow time to relax and sit at a cafe enjoying pasta and wine, pizza, and of course, gelato!
Florence's most famous sites include the Cathedrale Santa Maria Del Fiore (Duomo), the Baptistery, Museo Dell'Opera Del Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Sante Croce, and the Accademia. You won't run out of things to see in Florence! There are beautiful views of the city from Piazzale Michelangelo and many markets and and designer stores to browse and shop. My own top three favorites are: Santa Croce, the Accademia, and walking across Ponte Veccio.

I’ve included a travelogue which is from my day-to-day journal of my last trip to Florence along with my tips. Hope you enjoy them.

Nice travelogue, though I have visited this city only once we stayed for 4 days and spent another day visiting the leaning tower of Pisa :) However we had a bad experience in our place of stay! :(
