Eiði

I hadn't originally reckoned on visiting much of Eysturoy, only really to pass through on the way to Klaksvik, and back to Torshavn.

However in Klaksvik I was lucky enough to meet an Icelandic guy who was spending 3 or 4 days driving round the Faroes before travelling onto Norway, where he planned to drive up ot Nordkapp.

He offered to drive me round, so I threw my rucksack in the back and off we went.

I'm so glad I did get to see Eysturoy, the scenery is some of the most spectacular of the Faroes.

The name Eysturoy believes (I think) East Island, presumably because it was settled after Streymoy, the largest of the 18 Faroe Islands, where the now capitial city Torshavn is.

Gjógv

The village of Gjógv, which I reckon must be the most photographed village in the Faroes, due to it's picturesque setting.

The tallest mountain in the Faroes, Slaettaratindur (882m), is in Northern Eysturoy near Gjógv. The scenery is stunning, the roads go right over the mountain passes giving spectacular views.

Gjógv

Another shot of Gjógv (well, I told you I thought it was the most photographed village)

Great tips mate. I really want to get to the Faroe Islands soon myself. That restaurant tip is hilarious!
