Unique Island in the Chesapeake Bay

by jelw - last update: Jul 18, 2005

Going back in time

Tangier Island, Chesapeake Bay
Visiting Tangier Island, Virginia is like going thru a time warp. This tiny Island has been continuously inhabited since the 1700's.
Decendants of the families which originally settled this Isle still reside there.
Primary source of income has always been fishing. Sadly this profession is becoming as endangered as the fish.

Cons:"real life challanges ie:supplies,weather & garbage"
In A Nutshell:"This is living history not a resort vacation. Bring a book."

Fascinating page. I'm always intrigued by such offbeat spots. I visited nearby Smith Island several years ago, but sill want to go to Tangier.

LOL, don't you think virginity is overrated? I've always wanted to hear the folks TALK on TI .... Their dialect fascinates me :)
