Looking at Albany Town from Mt Melville facing east toward King George Sound. Albany was the las port of call for ANZAC troops bound for the middle east and Gallipoli in 1914.
The Desert Memorial on Mt Clarence is where the ANZAC dawn service is held each year on the 25th April. The statue was relocated from the middle east.
Princess Royal Harbour showing part of the CBD on left and King George Sound in the background.
- Pros:Stunning coastline.
- Cons:Can be cold and windy.

Haven't made it there yet, but will, one day! The blowhole, have just returned from Kiama & Blowhole, day 1, calm sea...nothing, day 2 .. stormy, fantastic, the best I have ever seen it, couldn't get all the height in my photo as it blew so high!
I love wild costlines likes this, though it doesn't fit my usual image of Australia. The whaling station sounds interesting, and the Amity too (and good point by Christine about the name of the ship!)
Was the original ship also named Amity? That means friendship, doesn't it? I suppose the convicts didn't feel too much friendship for this ship. A very interesting page!
Being a 'Maritimer' from Canada, I never could resist a beautiful and rugged coastline like Albany's! That, combined with it's historical nautical attractions, makes this a very appealing destination for me!
"Climbed" up Mt. Melville today, not too tough :). Weather is mostly sunny here too, but certainly not 30C
Used to come to Albany a lot from Mt. Barker for shopping. Thanks for bringing back memories.
Nice tips. Do divers dive at the wreck in winter?
Hi Robert, I visited W A in 1997 and spent a few hours in Albany; nice to remind the blowholes; Interesting wreck, but diving. . . BBBRRRR! It was winter when we were there.
One of my favourite places here in the west. leyle
Ahh the blowholes look like fun, and it seems that you all have really enjoyed all the attractions :-) Your son a future Captain on sea ? Hihi :-)
