Beerwah

Beerwah is a small town on the Sunshine Coast hinterland approximately 80km's north of Brisbane.

You can get there via the newly named Steve Irwin Way (formerly known as the Glasshouse Mountain Tourist Route), off the Bruce Highway.

Australia Zoo is the most famous attraction here but there is also the scenic Glasshouse Mountains which are nearby.

Australia Zoo was opened by Bob and Lyn Irwin in 1970 under the name Beerwah Reptile Park.

In 1991 Steve "The Crocodile Hunter" Irwin overtook management of the zoo. In 1992 the park was renamed Australia Zoo. The zoo maintains more than 1000 animals and over 550 staff.

That sounds like my kind of zoo - plenty of space for the animals and a focus on teaching people about them, not just gawping at their antics

Kind of makes you think who are worst at feeding frenzies, humans or crocs;). Nice page!

Excellent crocodile picture. But you have also to visit the crocodile farm in Samut Prakan, Thailand. There are about 100,000 crocodiles there. How much cost the food- i don't know. Nice page also!

Crikey, Steve Irwin was an amazing guy and he went out the way he would have wanted it! Steve really opened up a whole new way of looking at the 'baddies'. Thanks for the nice views of Australia Zoo.
