3 intrepid thrillseekers trembling on their toes - Gold Coast

3 intrepid thrillseekers trembling on their toes

Fly Coaster Surfers Paradise. Review

Imagine being strapped into a harness, attached to steel cables and then hauled 35m into the sky only to be released so you can fly at speeds of up to 130km/h!

If this is you then the Fly Coaster is your thrill.

Three intrepid thrillseekers
Trembling on their toes,
And taken to the toppermost,
Before they down they goes,
Screaming lungs for thrilling funs,
And adrenalin afterglows.

Entrance with Superman ride in middle - Gold Coast

Entrance with Superman ride in middle

Movie World Theme Parks. Review

Movie World is a Warner Bros theme park with rides, slides and shows with all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.

You can fly like a speeding bullet on the Superman Escape where you are catapulted from whoa to 100km/h in just 2 seconds!

If that only whet your appetite you could travel at 85 km/h and feel 4G's of gravity on the totally awesome Lethal Weapon.

For something a tad tamer there's a 70km/h drop from the top of a mountain in a canoe so hang onto your hats.

After all these thrills and spills it's also worth checking out the Stars on Parade with Shrek, Batman, Scooby Doo, Tweety and Daffy Duck.

And for a good laugh have a look at the Police Academy Stunt Show with staged re-enactments from these popular movies.

You can also go shopping for souvenirs at the many themed shops to be found around Movie World.

Giant Wave Pool - Gold Coast

Giant Wave Pool

Wet 'n' Wild Theme Parks. Review

Wet'n'Wild Water World is on the Gold Coast and it is Australia's biggest water theme park with splashtacular rides.

The Mach 5 attraction houses Wet 'n' Wild's two longest slides plus three king sized slides that have you skidding down a waterfall at nearly 85km/h.

I can't remembering seeing anything because the faster I went down, the faster other things went up. I had my rashie over my eyes and my boardies up my... well I'll leave that to your imagination!

Then there is the Tornado where your wild journey begins on a super-slide from a 15m high platform and then you blast down a 40m long tunnel and into a huge funnel, splashing back and forth through swirling water.

The Blackhole features two enclosed slides that catapult you into pitch black spirals so you don't know which way you're turning next and you don't see a thing until you hit the final splashdown!

At the Super 8 Aqua Racer you plunge head first down an 8 lane, 86m long slide reaching speeds of up to 40km/h and you get a placing to an accuracy of 1/1000th of a second. I'm afraid I was a little slow out of the starting block so I was left long behind.

The park opens at 10:00am every day and closing times vary throughout the year.

27 December - 25 January 9:00pm
26 January - 30 April 5:00pm
1 May - 31 August 4:00pm
1 September - 26 December 5:00pm

General admission prices are -

Adults $40.00 $40.00
Children (4 - 13 years inclusive) $26.00
Pensioner $26.00

Coolangatta - Gold Coast

Coolangatta

Coolangatta Beaches. Review

Coolangatta is as far south as you can get in Queensland as it right on the New South Wales border with it's twin town of Tweed Heads on the other side.

It's about a half hour drive along the Pacific Highway from the Gold Coast and the beaches here are at least the equal of Surfers Paradise but a lot more laid back.

Coolangatta is also home to the domestic and international airport for the Gold Coast.

While you are here you can enjoy lunch with freshly brewed coffee on the waterfront at the Main Beach Bakery.

Address: Queensland/New South Wales border.

Surfer's Paradise - Gold Coast

Surfer's Paradise

Surfer's Paradise Surfers Paradise. Review

Surfers Paradise is a suburb of the Gold Coast and is colloquially known as 'Surfers'. It is one of the many golden white beaches that stretch for over 60km's from Beenleigh near Brisbane to Tweed Heads on the New South Wales border.

It is a premier holiday destination for families or for couples looking for a romantic getaway.

The most unique feature of Surfer's Paradise is that you can walk off the beach right into the heart of the CBD with shops, restaurants and cafes close by.

Address: At the end of Cavill Mall

Directions: Near the heart of the CDB.

Mahatma Gandi - Gold Coast

Mahatma Gandi

The Wax Museum

This is two attractions in one featuring the World in Wax and the Chamber of Horrors.

At the World in Wax you can meet lifelike celebrities such as Elvis, Michael Jackson and Kylie Minogue or famous people like Mahatma Gandi and Albert Einstein.

Most of them look a tad pasty except for Mahatma Gandi. After staring at his very realistice likeness I could have sworn that he winked at me ;~)

The Chamber of Horrors is clearly for those who relish in the macabre world of torturers and the tortured along with torture instruments including the Dis-emboweler and the Flesh Tearer!

Address: 56 Ferny Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Directions: Walking distance from CDB.

Gold Coast from Tweed Heads - Gold Coast

Gold Coast from Tweed Heads

Tweed Heads Beaches. Review

Tweed Heads is as far north as you can get in New South Wales as it right on the Queensland border with it's twin town of Coolangatta on the other side.

It's about a half hour drive along the Pacific Highway from the Gold Coast and the beaches here are at least the equal of Surfers Paradise but a lot more laid back.

On a clear day here you are rewareded with great views of the Gold Coast city skyline particularly from Point Danger near the beach.

If you get here early enough you could watch the sunrise from the Pacific Ocean while eating breakfast at the Latitude 28 Cafe.

Directions: Queensland/New South Wales border.
