  • Restaurant Name: Billy Baxter's

Billy Baxter’s is a chain of licenced cafés and restaurants with distinctive décor based on the cartoon character.

The walls are covered in pictures of Billy drinking coffee in hilarious situations.

Favorite Dish: Long black coffee and blueberry muffin with fresh cream for AU$6.95.

The coffee was great but I forgot to ask them to heat the muffin so it was served cold.

Australian Outback Spectacular: 3 Course Aussie BBQ
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Gold Coast - Fresh salad with mango dressing
  • Fresh salad with mango dressing
  • by robertgaz , 4 more photos

  • Restaurant Name: Australian Outback Spectacular

You will be grandly treated with a mouthwatering 3 course Aussie BBQ meal while enjoying the sight and sounds of the Australian Outback Spectacular show.

The first course is a tasty fresh Queensland Salad served with tangy mango dressing.

The main course is a barbequed tenderloin beef steak with rich gravy, seasoned with Kakadu plum sauce and served with beans carrots and mashed spuds with baked Australian Damper.

Desert is a traditional baked pavlova with Queensland berries and fresh cream and billy tea in a tin mug.

Beer, wine and soft drinks are served with a smile by busy jilleroos and jackeroos throughout the show.

    Fair dinkum bonza tucker.

I apologise for the quality of some of the photos but for the safety of the riders and horses, all video cameras and flash photography can't be used at any time.

Favorite Dish: The entire meal was superb but what was especially impressive was that some 1,000 meals were served almost at the same time.

Hard working jilleroos and jackeroos walk in carrying 10 meals each at a time to feed their hungry waiting guests.

The beef comes from grain fed cattle so vegetarians are well catered for ;~)

Mountain Cafe and Gifts: Fabulous views over the valley
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Mountain Cafe and Gifts

High up in Lamington National Park at O'Reilly's Guesthouse you can enjoy a meal with drinks with fabulous views over the valley at the Mountain Cafe and Gifts.

So after exploring the forest paths around the Tree Top Walk come and refresh yourself here.

They offer a delicious menu of homestyle meals with drinks and there is also a takeaway section for quick snacks.

Once you order your meal at the counter you are given a pager which sends you an alert when your order is ready to be collected.

Favorite Dish: I enjoyed turkey and bacon on toasted focaccia (AU$7.50) with a long strong black coffee (AU$3.00).

At least take a chair on the big outside balcony with a hot coffee or glass of wine and gaze at the magnificent views!

Sunset Bar & Grill: Brekky on the water
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Sunset Bar & Grill

The Sunset Bar & Grill is a part of the Marina Mirage shopping complex near Mariners Cove Marina.

It's right on the waterfront and a very relaxing spot to refresh yourself with a coffee and cake. The cafe is licensed so a cold beer or a nice glass of wine are other attractive options.

Favorite Dish: When I asked the waitress what type of muffins they had I was given the option of blueberry or "epple". I requested the blueberry muffin with my coffee.

It was only when I sat down to wait for my order that I realised the waitress must have been a Kiwi and that on reflection an "apple" muffin did sound rather appetising.

Ashmore Rd. Seafood & Steak: Big meals, big value
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Ashmore Rd. Seafood & Steak

The first thing that hits your olfacory as you approach the entrance are the delectable aromas of sizzling steaks.

And as you walk in you will see a display counter which shows you all the different cuts of meat and various seafoods available and also the size of each serve including the salads. So you can pretty much make up your mind before being seated.

Once at your table you can then order drinks at the bar. They have an enormous collection of some 25,000 wine bottles so once decide which tipple's for you you can pay for it at the bar, grab some glasses and go to your table to order your meal.

The meal starts with toasted garlic focaccia bread which is free flowing all night and already included in the price of your meal. All tables are provided with menu sheets on which you place your name, table number and tick the meals that you want.

I like this system of ordering meals because it makes paying the bill easy when dining with a large group of people. For example, I placed my name and table number on the menu sheet with all the meals for my family ticked on one sheet and that is all I was billed for at the end. No bill splitting or disagreements over who ate what and how much.

All in all the service here was first class and the food was simply delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Gold Coast.

Because the meals are enormous and the garlic bread keeps coming all night, the chances are you won't be able to finish your meal. Just ask the waitress for a "doggy bag" which comes as a styrofoam container into which you can place your unfinished food for later on.

Favorite Dish: As is my wont, I ordered a blue steak, Moreton Bay bugs with chips and vegetables. The steak had a bacon crust and must have been close to 500g and was mouthwateringly delicious and the "bugs" (which are much like small lobsters) were tender and sweet.

I'm happy to add that I had no need for a "doggy bag" because I finished all my steak, bugs, chips, vegies, focaccia breads and a bottle of red.

It was very hedonistic of me but I really enjoyed the night... burp.

    Latitude 28: On the border
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Latitude 28

The Latitude 28 Cafe is right on the Queensland/New South Wales border at the geographical location of its namesake.

Their address is at Coolangatta in Queensland but you could take one step to the side and then be at Tweed Heads in New South Wales.

So you could be having your breakfast in one state while the guy sitting right next to you could be in another!

But it's a great location to enjoy a bite to eat or a freshly brewed coffee while you enjoy the view over the wide expanse of the blue Pacific Ocean.

    Open 7 days a week from 7am to 4pm.

Favorite Dish: Sausages and eggs with crisp pieces of fresh toast spread with real butter and hot coffee.

    Breakfast - $10
    Coffee - $3.00
    View - priceless
