There are no monkeys at Monkey Mia but I believe that the name is a combination of "Monkey" which was the name of a pearling ship that anchored there in the 19th century and "Mia" is a local Aboriginal word meaning place.
But you can come tome and experience the wild dolphins at Monkey Mia
...and if you've driven this far you may as well drive the extra 400 kilometres or so to Exmouth...
There is a wide variety of accommodation available at Nanga Bay Resort

Nice tips and photos of Monkey Mia and the dolphins :)
The stromalites look like nothing on earth! The more I see of your pages, the more I know I would love WA - wish we'd made it there when we visited Oz some years back
My Monkey??? Whoever named this town was one snag short of a barbie!
I was intriqued by the name of Monkey Mia, then by the stromalites which I thought looked like black lava til I read your description! Got any shells big enough to collect????
Stromalites, a beach made out of billions of shells and the name Monkey Mia - this seems to be a place out of this world!
Great information!
Oh my - just love the name & the shell beach & blue skies
A friend of mine was lucky enough to work there....
Kaikoura in WA....actually more Whales there LOL I love the Dolphy's. the Stromalites look like a herd of Sealions, amazing stuff..but no Monkey here :-(
